6 Ways Your Car Salesperson Is Like Your Best Friend

Almost everyone has someone that they consider a best friend. A best friend is someone you can call when things are going well, or when something is going wrong. It’s also someone who you know will tell you the truth even if it’s not what you want to hear.

But there’s one person out there who is sort of like your best friend, even if you may only see them once every few years: your car salesperson! Yes, it might sound silly at first but the similarities are all there. Just look at these six ways your car salesperson is just like your best friend:

1. They are great listeners

Automotive sales professionals are taught to be expert listeners. Unlike the salespeople of decades ago, fast-talking pushiness is out, and consultative listening is in. Just like your best friend, your car salesperson will listen to everything you have to say, even if it has absolutely nothing to do with cars.

2. They want to cheer you up

Many people don’t think of car buying as a fun experience, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Your car salesperson will do their absolute best to make you smile, and help you enjoy the process as much as possible. Of course, some of our jokes may be corny, but we’ll do our best to get a chuckle out of you, just like your best friend would.

3. They won’t judge you

A best friend never judges you, no matter what you did. And your car salesperson will be the same way. Whether it’s a spotty payment history, credit issues, or just a very “unique” taste in cars – like a best friend, your car salesperson will never, ever pass judgement on you, even if you only want to drive the slime-green model.

4. They will tell you the truth, even if it hurts

One of the great things about a best friend is that they’ll be honest with you, even if it’s not what you want to hear. Your car salesperson will also be honest with you, especially when it comes to your expectations and how they align with what you’re willing to spend and what you can afford. Of course, a salesperson might be a little more diplomatic than a best friend, but they’ll break the news to you too.

5. They’ll cover for you

You know your best friend will have your back when you need it, and a good car salesperson will too. If you’re looking for help convincing your spouse or significant other that buying that new car is a great idea, you can bet your salesperson will be more than happy to help sway the conversation in your favor. They might even help you come up with a nice apology card to bring with you when you show up at home with the car.

6. They want to stay in touch

Sales has changed so much over the last few decades that the fly-by-night relationships between salespeople and customers are being replaced by longer, more meaningful connections. Your car salesperson wants to earn your trust, and become your go-to resource for anything automotive-related, so they want you to stay in touch, whether it’s to call and ask question, or just as a connection on social media. So while your car salesperson may not be your best friend (yet), you should still stay in touch.
