Buying a car always feels great. There’s almost nothing better than getting into a shiny new, or cleaned-up used vehicle and driving it to your favorite restaurant to celebrate, turning around to admire it multiple times as you’re walking in.

But too many of us don’t reward ourselves enough, and think we don’t deserve to pick up a new vehicle when we really want to. If you’re having doubts about whether or not you deserve to get a new (or used) car, stop being so hard on yourself and look for the following signs that you do.

1. You’ve just gone through a major life event

A life event is always a sign that it might be time to change vehicles. Whether it’s a marriage, divorce, new child, job change, or a big move – sometimes these events can be the perfect time to change vehicles, especially if you’re looking for a fresh start.

2. You got a raise at work

You work hard, and if your employer has recognized that hard work by giving you a raise, then it’s a great sign that you deserve to buy a car. After all, why work so hard for the money if you’re not going to find a great way to enjoy it?

3. It’s been years since you’ve bought one

If you’ve been holding onto your existing car for years, it might be a sign that it’s time to get something new. Of course, many of us grow attached to our cars and don’t want to part with them. But too often we focus on what we’re losing more than what we’re gaining, and buying a new or newer car is almost always an upgrade.

4. People keep mentioning your car’s condition

When friends, family, and coworkers start making comments about the condition your current vehicle is in, it’s a sure sign that you deserve a new ride. If your car is banged up, constantly in need of repairs, or just too old to be on the road and everyone except you seems to notice, take it as a sign that it’s time to try something new.

5. You don’t treat yourself very often

There are certain people out there who rarely treat themselves, instead focusing on pleasing others around them, or just depriving themselves of the things they want. If this sounds like you, it’s important to remember that life is short, and it’s ok to enjoy yourself every once in awhile. Buying a car or truck that you love can add a little bit of everyday joy to your life, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

6. You need some sort of change in your life

Many of our lives are monotonous, especially as we get older. If you feel like you’re in a rut, and every day is the same, you can add some excitement by going skydiving, or you can switch things up and buy a different vehicle. Who knows, it might just be the spark that changes your life completely.
